Board of Directors

Doug joined the board as President-Elect in 2012. He obtained his BMR PT in 1996 from the University of Manitoba. He is currently involved in three private practice clinics as a practising partner. He served as President of the Manitoba Physiotherapy Association from 2009 to 2012. He has provided on-field care for elite soccer clubs in Winnipeg, and has stressed student mentorship within the clinics.

Karen was elected to the board in 2011 for a three-year term. Her current role is Executive Lead, Quality and Strategic Planning at the Catholic Health Ministry of Saskatchewan and she recently served several years as Director of Quality Improvement for the province’s Health Quality Council. Her work focuses on effective board governance and leadership for high quality health care. Karen graduated with a BPT in 1981 and a MSc in 1997 from the University of Saskatchewan, where she is now a clinical associate professor. She has worked as a PT clinician, consultant, researcher, educator and director. Her research interests include integrated care models, knowledge translation, quality improvement, shared decision making and collaborative practice for client centered care.

Jennifer was elected to the Board in 2011 for a three-year term. Recently retired, she has worked as a clinician, department manager, consultant, and director in the fields of risk, quality and patient safety. She served as President of the Ontario Physiotherapy Association from 1994 to 1995 and President of the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada from 2001 to 2006. Jennifer is a graduate of Carleton University (Mathematics), the University of Toronto BScPT program and the Queen’s University Master in Public Administration program.

Lesley was elected to the board as Physiotherapist Assistant Director in 2012 for a three-year term. Studying in Ottawa and graduating in 2005 as a physiotherapist assistant has allowed her the opportunity to work along-side exceptional therapists and be a part of an amazing professional team at the Ottawa Hospital. Lesley is currently working in acute care with the neurology team, with significant experience in orthopaedics behind her. The opportunity to be a part of the CPA is a great honour and she will be bringing her passion for the profession and experience as a physiotherapist assistant to the Board.

Diana was re-elected to the Board in 2011, serving a second three-year term. With a career in physiotherapy that spans more than 25 years, Diana brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her role. She has worked as a practising clinician, division chair, educator, business owner, and corporate executive. Diana’s involvement on various committees, boards and organizations related to physiotherapy has been her way of giving back and contributing to the development of the profession.

Sarah was appointed to the Board as External Director in 2008. As in-house legal counsel for Accenture, Sarah’s practice focuses on domestic and international commercial transactions pertaining to systems integration, management consulting services and outsourcing mainly in the resources, utilities, financial services, and communications/high tech sectors.  She writes a monthly IT column for a Canadian legal publication and is currently involved with a charitable project to build schools in Nicaragua in memory of a friend and humanitarian aid worker who was tragically killed while providing aid to underprivileged children overseas.  Sarah holds a Master of Arts degree from Carleton University, a Bachelor of Law degree (obtained in French) from the University of Ottawa and is a registered Trade-mark Agent.
