Allison Stene, President
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Allison was appointed to the Board in 2021. She graduated with a Degree in Biology in 2004 and a Bachelor of Physical Therapy in 2007 from the University of Saskatchewan; she then completed her Masters of Rehabilitation Science from McMaster University in 2014. Allison has worked in public practice for the bulk of her career with a special interest in critical care. Currently, she is transitioning from managing an interdisciplinary therapy department at Royal University Hospital to a role as the Provincial Pediatric Subspecialty Manager with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Allison has been very involved in the professional Association since her role as President of the National Student Assembly in 2006/2007. She also served two terms as President of the Saskatchewan Physiotherapy Association from 2011 to 2016.

Amanda de Chastelain
Calgary, Alberta

Amanda was elected to the Board in June 2018 and currently sits on the Governance Committee. Her post-graduate education started at Queen’s University, from which she completed a BA in Life Sciences while working towards her bilingual BSc in Physiotherapy at the University of Ottawa, graduating summa cum laude in 1992. She then returned to Kingston, Ontario working in various settings from hospitals to sports fields to universities for several years prior to returning to academia, obtaining a Master of Kinesiology from the University of Calgary in 1998.

Following some time working as a casual physiotherapist at the Rockyview and Alberta Children’s Hospitals, consulting for the College of Physical Therapists of Alberta, and a family move to the USA, she returned to Canada, re-certified, and returned to work at the Alberta Children’s Hospital working full-time treating patients from many clinics including orthopaedics, complex pain, oncology, and burns. She is passionate about the physical therapy profession and is excited about serving on the Board to make a positive impact on the profession and its highly skilled members.

John Nagy
Richmond, British Columbia

John was elected to the Board in June 2018 and currently serves as the Chair to both Finance Committees – i.e., CPA and PFC.

As the co-owner of Reid Hurst Nagy Inc. Chartered Professional Accountants, John brings a wealth of knowledge and creative thinking in business and financial planning to the Board of Directors. Further, his organization works with several not-for-profit organizations in various sectors such as education, health, and social services.

He graduated magna cum laude with a Diploma of Technology in Accounting from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1977 and received his Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation in 1980. John has also served on a number of volunteer boards, and as a result has participated in developing and maintaining accounting standards across the country. He has served on the Boards of CGA BC and CGA Canada, rising to the role of Chair of both organizations. In addition, he sat on the Board of the newly created Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.

Jason Nenzel
British Columbia

Jason was elected to the Board in 2022. Jason is a registered physical therapist specializing in orthopaedics, which involves pain management, performance optimization, intramuscular stimulation, manual therapy, and corrective exercise.

While attending the University of Alberta, where he received his Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy, Jason held the position of President for both the Rehabilitation Medicine Student Association, as well as the Physical Therapy Graduate Committee. Prior to graduating from the University of Alberta, Jason graduated from Vancouver Island University as Valedictorian and received his undergraduate degree in Sport, Health, and Physical Education. Jason has pursued continuing education in several areas related to orthopaedics. These include advanced training in Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), Spinal Manipulation Techniques (SMT), Glenohumeral (shoulder) joint management, and the continual appraisal of new research as it’s published.

George Roumeliotis
Saint-Laurent, Quebec 

George was elected to the Board in June 2021. He began his involvement in the disability sector when he was a teenager, beginning as a volunteer for community-based organizations, and then working as a caregiver. Through these experiences, he witnessed the impacts that various neurological disorders had on the daily life of clients. These experiences led to his pursuit of a kinesiology degree at McGill University.

George graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (Honours) in 2018 and completed his master’s degree in Physiotherapy in 2020 from McGill. During his studies, he was elected as the President of both his undergraduate student association, the Education Undergraduate Society, and his graduate association, the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy Graduate Student Association.

His area of focus as a clinician is in neurological rehabilitation. Since graduating, he has been working in an interdisciplinary stroke in-patient team at the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital in Laval, Quebec.

Besides his clinical work, George serves on the Board of the Centre d’Activités Récréatives et Éducatives, a Montreal-based non-profit organization supporting adults with physical disabilities. There, he acts as the Board’s healthcare representative.

Laura Kean
Edmonton, Alberta

Laura was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia and is now living and working in Edmonton, Alberta. She completed her Master of Physical Therapy from the University of British Columbia in 2018. Prior to that she completed her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a minor in psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2015.

Throughout her career, Laura has worked in both private and public practice. Her primary focus has been in neurorehabilitation and therapy for older adults. Laura has always had a passion for how the nervous system controls movement. Specifically, she is interested in balance training and falls prevention using a fitness-forward and neurophysiology-informed treatment approach. She is a strong believer that age or disability shouldn’t define participation. Her goal as a physiotherapist is to keep people moving for life with confidence.

Laura served as a student representative on the board of directors for the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC) from 2016-2018. This experience was incredibly valuable in developing her leadership and communication. It also kickstarted an interest in shaping the future of the profession beyond clinical practice. Laura remained involved with the PABC as a member of the planning committee for the annual education conference until the end of 2022. Recently, Laura has joined the Finding Balance Alberta steering committee, a public awareness initiative to educate and empower older adults to remain independent and reduce injury and falls. This has been a unique opportunity to combine Laura’s clinical passion with public advocacy.

Laura believes strongly in the CPA’s vision of physiotherapists being essential partners for optimizing health. Laura wants physiotherapy to be known as the go-to profession for not only pain management but also successful aging, chronic disease management, injury and illness prevention and optimizing wellness for all.

Maria Milioto
Quebec

Maria was elected to the Board in 2022 and currently serves as the Chair of Governance Committee. She has been a physical therapist since 1995 upon graduating from McGill University. Since then, she has been working in management and is passionate about leadership and rehabilitation.

In 2003, she worked as a rehab manager in a Montreal hospital, in 2006, opened up interdisciplinary program clinics.  In 2018, she joined Physiothérapie Universelle and joined Lifemark as VP Operations in Quebec. Since October 2022, she moved into a National role as VP Interdisciplinary rehabilitation services growing the OT, Mental Health and Voc business.

Maria has been involved with Cancer and Rehabilitation through the Coalition Priorité Cancer organization. This helped patients understand how physical therapy can play a major role in their rehabilitation. She also worked with Association Physiothérapie Montreal participating in a panel on the Future of Physiotherapy.

 Maria is passionate about board management, leadership, collaborative and change management and looks forward to helping the Board attain it’s strategic Mission and Vision.

Christine Castellarin-Harris
Toronto, Ontario

Christine was elected to the board in 2023. She graduated with a BA degree from McMaster University, then completed the Occupational Therapist Assistant & Physiotherapist Assistant Program at Humber College.

Christine is passionate about working with children and has been a PTA at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto since 2011. She currently works clinically in chronic pain and transplant, specializing in intradialytic exercise for children receiving dialysis. In her time in acute care, she has worked with orthopedic, rheumatology, chronic pain, burns and numerous other patient populations. She also spent 5 years working at a preschool for children with special needs.

Christine sits on many committees within the hospital, participates in clinical research studies that involve physiotherapy and virtual reality and completed her certification in Aquatic Therapy in 2012. She is looking forward to working with the board to advocate for physiotherapy through a physiotherapist’s assistant lens.
